Voice of God

Do you want to hear from God?  I know that I do!  Sometimes I get jealous of the Old Testament righteous and prophets because it is apparent they heard God directly speak to them.  WOW!  Talk about being clear!  Could it get any more clear?  Wouldn’t it be great if just once God did this to us!   Yeah, I’m sure that it would unsettle us a bit, but we would have no doubt about what the voice of God was telling us to do!  But God doesn’t speak like that today does He?  I mean at least He hasn’t to me!  If He has to you, please give me a call because I would love to talk to you!

Now don’t get me wrong, I believe that God CAN do whatever He desires and if He so chooses, He can speak out loud to any of us or all of us at the same time!  Mostly, however, He has not chosen to speak in this way.  You see, once He spoke through the apostles and prophets and gave us the Holy Scriptures and I believe now He uses the revealed Word to communicate with us.  The Scriptures give us everything we need to be able to determine His will for our lives! 2 Timothy 3:16 puts it this way, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.  It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right!”

I do believe that God also speaks through other people, I believe that He speaks through experience and even at times our circumstances.  Just think of the words of the apostles and the calming of the storms.  But while I believe it possible for God
to speak in other ways, may we always remember that if we think we are hearing God’s voice in one of these ways, we must be able to prove or “back up” what we’ve “heard” in the pages of Scripture!  The Bible is our final authority!  We should not do anything without consulting the Word and testing what we are about to say, do or even think or plan against the pages of it!

If you want to know God’s will for you, read the Bible!  It is very plain.  GOD STILL SPEAKS LOUD AND CLEAR!
