Lord, I Give You My Heart

What fights for you attention?  So often in our current culture, we allow ourselves to be pulled in so many different directions.  I want to challenge you today to stop for a second and think about where you are headed.

Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.

We are to SEEK God with all of our heart!  If you are like me, I seem to give my heart to everything BUT God!

The word seek in the above verse does not allude to some big cosmic game of hide-n-seek.  The word seek really means “to explore thoroughly.”

I love caves.  My daughter, Mary Beth does too.  When she was little we used to go in every cave that we could.  This cave pictured here is Carlsbad Caverns.  Image

The mouth of this cave is very large as it opens.  You can stand at the opening at dusk and watch as thousands of bats exit the cave.  It really is an amazing sight.  But if you don’t enter the cave, you will miss so much of the wonders that is Carlsbad.

The same is true with God.  We can behold His glory just like the mouth of that cave and we will not be disappointed, but there is so much more to know about Him, if we will only dare to explore or SEEK Him with all of our heart.

This morning I was reading in Psalm 86 and I want to share with you verses 11-12.  “Teach me Your way, O Lord, and I will walk in Your truth, GIVE ME AN UNDIVIDED HEART, that I may fear your name forever.  I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify Your name forever.”

I pray that I will not have a “divided heart!”  I pray that all those things that fight for my time and attention will never take me away from my purpose to worship my Lord with all of my heart – to praise His name forever.

I pray this for you as well.  Remember the words of Christ in Matthew 6:33… “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all of these things will be added to you.”

Our worship team sang a beautiful song yesterday called “I Give You My Heart.”  Here is a link to this song.  Watch it, worship and make it your prayer today!
